Hex Documentation v1.1
Ben Matasar has written a very concise, easy-to-read guide to using Hex!, based on a USENET post by Brian Ridge. If you're at all confused about how to use Hex!, or what the various options are, grab this-it's small and useful. Update adds a crucial bit of info about the linkage between terms and lights in Pfhorte 2. (04/29/96) (58K) |

TexRay Workbench 1.0
A package of instructions for creating Marathon textures using Bryce 2, along with Bryce templates, support files and a set of 12 example textures. The examples are stored as picts so can easily be viewed even if you don't have Bryce 2, and just want to see some raytraced texture examples. The examples use Marathon Infinity, but are relevant to all versions of Marathon. (06/16/97) (703K) Tim Thomas |

Updates Anvil to version 1.0.3. Many bug fixes to physics, sound and shapes editing - most outstanding problems have now been resolved. Note however that Anvil 1.0.2 is still required for applying shapes patches generated with that version. (06/10/97) (410K) Bungie |
Better Cleanup 1.0.1
This Chisel plug-in effect will remove unused lights, objects, medias etc from your map file allowing for easier maintenance. Better Cleanup 1.0.1 fixes some bugs in the version of Cleanup that came with older versions of Chisel (this version is included with Chisel 2.1 and above.) (09/03/98) (6K) Mike Trinder |
Better Move Level 2.1
The move effect that came with older versions of Chisel had some limitations in that it didn't move the media, ceiling and floor textures. Version 2.1 fixes that and some other bugs. This effect is included as part of the Chisel 2.1 package. (09/03/98) (4K) Mike Trinder |
CLUT Modifier 1.2
The M2/M00 Clut Modifier will allow you to extract the palettes from any M2 or Infinity Shapes file, and to reinstall after you have modified them. Required because Anvil is limited and buggy in it's customization of the color palettes. Version 1.2 fixes a number of bugs and adds support for 'glow in the dark' colors (04/12/98) (29K) Charles Lechasseur |
Chisel 2.0.4
A very cool map enhancement utility. On it's own, it does three things (and it does them well): it makes ovals in Forge, it cleans up unused data (lights, objects, that sort of thing), and it allows you to shift a whole level in the x, y or z direction. Porters of M1/M2 maps will love this... From version 2, Chisel has supported 'plug-ins' for new features, such as 'Merge' and 'Stretch' written by Mike Trinder. Version 2.02 improves the apps memory management. This version fixes a bug when using long filenames. (06/27/98) (47K) Kirill |
Chisel 2.1.1
A very cool map enhancement utility for Marathon 2 and Infinity files. Chisel uses plug-in's for each of the effects that it can apply to your map. The three supplied effects are 'Oval' which allows you to make oval/circular shaped areas in Forge, 'Better Cleanup' which removes unused map data (unused lights, objects etc.) and 'Better Move' which allows you to shift a whole level in the x, y or z direction. Porters of M1/M2 maps will love this... Information is available from the author on writing new plug-ins. You can find additional plug-ins in the Infinity Tools area or by searching for 'Chisel'. (09/03/98) (41K) Mike T |
Cinemascope
This utility will allow you to edit PICT resources (either separate files or merged into a map file) so that Marathon will display them as full screen images in terminal displays. Normally, Marathon can only display a 307x266 pixel image on the left with text on the right hand side - this tool will allow you to use 614x266 images that fill the screen. Handy if you don't want mono-spaced english text in your terminals. (09/03/98) (20K) Mike Trinder |
Face Objects
Forge allows you to set players and monsters facing in specific directions, but doesn't allow the same options for scenery and weapon objects. Whilst you don't normally need to do this, it can be usefull for objects that look different from different angles. This Chisel plug-in fixes that and will allow you to set each object in an exact direction. This update is a simple bug fix (the efect actually works now) (09/05/98) (15K) Mike Trinder |
Fix Alien Ammo 1.1
Forge is hardwired to ignore the settings for alien ammo objects in a map, and although this doesn't cause a problem when using the standard physics/shapes, it causes major headaches for scenario developers. This Chisel plug-in will get around the problem by allowing you to alter the alien weapon settings from outside of Forge. (09/03/98) (9K) Mike Trinder |
Forge 1.0.4 update
Updates Forge to version 1.0.4. Fixes a few minor bugs and provides an option to select lines/points from the menus (invaluable to people building levels on slower 68k machines) (06/12/97) (970K) Bungie |
Forge/Anvil 1.0.2 update
Updates Forge and Anvil to versions 1.0.2. (12/05/96) (494K) Bungie |
Geometry Effects
Geometry Effects is a set of 2 Chisel plug-ins and a standalone application for converting Marathon maps to and from PICT files. This allows you to create a map layout in a standard graphics program, save as a PICT and then then import into a map file for texturing etc. You can also save a map file in an interchange geometry format to copy elements between maps. (09/03/98) (45K) Mike Trinder |
Hex! 1.0.1
Forge has a very nice visual mode, but absolutely no interface for creating and editing terminals. Hex provides a very easy-to-use, intuitive interface for this purpose. Works with M2 and Infinity maps. This upgrade allows you to browse through your terminal picts from within Hex and includes a much requested manual. A must for scenario makers! (12/05/96) (406K) Bo Lindbergh |
Infinity MaraMacros v1.1
Similar to the M2 version, these are MacsBug macros for cheating in Infinity. Install them (instructions included), and you'll be able to boost shields, weapons/ammo, oxygen... you name it, all without modifying your Marathon app or needing a saved game. Update fixes a small bug that makes it impossible to change the info on the assault rifle. (10/22/96) (10K) |
Lorens Map Analyzer 1.0
This utility works in a similar way to Kirill's 'MapInfo' and will generate a text file containing all sorts of statistics for your map files. Some platform, sound and media counts are skipped, but more information is given about the map geometry, such as the number of points and disconnected map segments, and an overall complexity matrix for the level is generated. It will also provide a summary of all levels in the map, with tables showing which monsters appear together. One especially usefull feature is the ability to analyze whole folders of maps at a time - select the top level of your Trilogy CD and let it go to work. PPC Only (a 68K version may be made available if there's enough interest). (10/29/97) (165K) Loren Petrich |
M2 Wall Textures
PICT files (and Photoshop color tables) for each of the four texturesets in M2. These can be imported easily into an Infinity shapes file (using Anvil), facilitating the use of Forge for building M2 maps. (11/18/96) (1448K) |
M2/M00 Sound Shrinker 1.1.2
The M2/M00 Sound Shrinker can take a Sounds file and delete all its 16-bit sounds. This will reduce its size by a tremendous amount. A must for those with filled-up HDs! This version introduces minor bug fixes. (07/07/97) (25K) Charles Lechasseur |
Marathon Art Guide
From the creator of Trojan comes this collection of tips, hints, and step-by-step instructions on how to create new art (sprites, not chapter art) for the Marathon series. Most of the work was done with M1, but the information is perfectly appropriate for use with Anvil. All documents are in Simpletext format, except for the Photoshop color tables and the like... If you're trying to create new monsters or weapons for Marathon, you'll find information of use to you here. (11/11/96) (562K) |
Marathon Map Splitter 1.0.4
Bo says it better than I would... from the readme: "Marathon Map Splitter takes a merged Marathon scenario file as produced by Forge and splits it into individual map, physics, and terminal text files for each level. It also extracts any resources into a "Terminal Picts" file. It is the exact opposite of the "Merge Levels" command in Forge. This lets you do things like peeking at other people's physics models (ever wondered how to make a potatoanus?), fixing the bugs in Blood Tides of Lh'owon, and converting old Pfhorte-generated scenarios." Another must-have for scenario builders! Update adds the conversion of platform info (yes! you can now go back and forth between Forge and Pfhorte!) and a few other things. 1.0.2 fixes a bug which prevented the editing of some Pfhorte maps, and adds an "N" before network level names. 1.0.3 works around physics file weirdness.(06/19/97) (52K) Bo Lindbergh |
Media Munger
A Chisel plug-in that allows you to use any combination of medias with any texture set, e.g. both water and lava in the Pfhor texture set. (09/03/98) (5K) Mike Trinder |
Merge 1.0.2
Another great Chisel effect. This one allows you to copy bits from various different levels and merge them together into another one. No need to manually recreate multiple copies of that cool elevator - just make it once, and then merge it into your new level at various points. Handy for 5D space efects where you can just copy a complex room area, and merge another identical copy into the same space. (09/03/98) (19K) Mike Trinder |
Physics Converter 1.0
If you split an Infinity map with the Map Splitter, any resultant physics models are M2. This small drag-n-drop program provides a simple way to convert between M2 and Infinity physics models. (11/18/96) (16K) |
Poseidon 1.0
Flip your Marathon 2 or Infinity map through any of the X, Y or Z axis with this 'interesting' Chisel plug-in. Run along the ceiling of Waterloo Waterpark, or the walls of Aye Mak Sicur. (09/03/98) (7K) Mike Trinder |
Scalpel 1.0.1
Even better than IZD-this actually excises zero length lines from your map! Fix your maps forever, and obviate the need to run extra software when playing Marathon on a 68K machine. (11/26/96) (28K) |
Shapes Juggler 1.2
The Marathon Shapes Juggler allows the transfer of shapes collections to and from Shapes files, the ability to store them in Shapes suitcases, and to create Shuttles for easy installing. Distributing shapes patches in shuttle format allows for far easier and more reliable instalation than Anvil patch files. This update now allows you to disable Custom collections support, allowing people who took out their Custom collections to create Shapes shuttles anyway. (04/12/98) (60K) Charles Lechasseur |
Sound Editor 1.0b4r2
Finally, a user friendly editor for M2/Infinity Sound files. This works in much the same way as the Sound portion of Anvil, but apparently without the bugs/anomalies. Also provides the options of adding/deleting whole sound classes, and the creation of Sound Shuttles - standalone installers for new sound collections (far easier to apply than Anvil patches). Shuttles can also be made by comparing two files and outputing the differences - very usefull for when you don't start from an original M2/Infinity sound file. Update fixes all known bugs (03/30/98) (221K) Charles Lechasseur |
Stretch 2.1
Stretch allows you to stretch or mirror a texture on any Marathon 2 or Infinity map's walls. For example, you can take a 4096 pixel wall, and map a 1024 pixel texture to it, thus making the texture 4 times it's length. Mirroring textures allows them to be seen in reverse, or when used with the slide mode, make a texture slide right to left instead of left to right. Requires Chisel 2.1 (09/03/98) (18K) Mike Trinder |
Texture Munger 1.0
Texture Munger allows you to use textures from two different sets within one map level. Setting things up is somewhat hairy, but the results can be worth it . As the process can only be applied to merged map files, it's scriptable so you can reapply the changes easily. Requires Chisel 1.2. (09/03/98) (37K) Mike Trinder |
Wot dat tag do den?
This Chisel plug-in will create a text file containing a list of all tags in your level and what switches/lights/platforms etc. they're connected to. Essential when making complex maps or for figuring out the puzzles in third party scenarios. (09/03/98) (9K) Mike Trinder |
Write Rotator File 1.0a2
A Chisel effect that allows you to export a map into a 3D wireframe mesh displayable by the cool freeware app "Rotator" (Rotator can be downnloaded from here). (09/03/98) (12K) Mike Trinder |

Tina Sounds
Two sound patches that convert BoB and Vacuum BoB to have female voices. The new voices were created by speeding up the originals, and as such, they don't sound quite as convincing as new recordings would, but worth trying out for a bit of fun if you have a fast connection (3.5MB download). Supplied as Sound Editor shuttles for easy installation (04/07/98) (3513K) Loren Petrich |
Tina Sounds (Improved)
Two sound patches that convert BoB and Vacuum BoB to have female voices. The new voices were created by raising the pitch of Doug Zartmans originals whilst keeping the same pace, and are an improvement over the previous Tina Sounds. These still aren't quite how I'd imagine Tina to sound, but they do work a lot better with the female Bob patches than the standard sound file. This is a 5MB download (6.5MB binhexed) and so we've made it available in digestable chunks. |
Tina Sounds - Suffocation Patch
This patch replaces the 'Suffocation' sound in the Marathon soundfile with a version that's been speeded up by a factor of 1.5. This goes along with the original Tina Sounds patch. Not required for the Tina Sounds (Improved) patch. (07/13/98) (36K) Loren Petrich |
